MICROGREENS

Why you should care

Everyone can benefit from microgreens!

Microgreens are not just for the nutrition fanatic or some fancy garnish you get in fancy restaurants.

We have listed 7 key benefits of microgreens on this page, there are many more.

What are Microgreens?

Microgreens are young seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs ready for harvesting in less than 14-21 days after germination.

Don't confuse microgreens with sprouts. Sprouts are seeds that have just been soaked in water long enough to germinate.

Sprouts

Why should you care?

1- Health Benefits

  • Microgreens are considered a functional food, a food that promotes health beyond basic nutrition.

  • Microgreens contain high levels of all the essential nutrients:

    • Phytonutrients

    • Antioxidants

    • Vitamins

    • Minerals

    • Enzymes

2- Nutrient-dense

  • Microgreens were found to be up to 40-fold more concentrated in nutrients as their equivalent mature plants.

  • Harvesting foods and long food miles cause natural decaying processes to start which results in loss of nutrients. Spinach can lose up to 90% of its Vitamin C within 24 hours after harvest

    • At Nourishing Hub we only have to travel short distances in the community to get you your freshly harvested greens. This means you get the freshest most nutritious microgreens.

  • Because they are so nutrient-dense a little goes a long way. You do not need platefuls of greens to get your 5-a-day, only a few small serving is all you need.

3- Flavour and taste

  • Microgreens are absolutely packed with flavour!

  • Don't let the 'green' colour make you believe they all taste the same because they don't - they range in flavour from sweet to nutty to sharp tangy, spicy and bitter, perfect to compliment any meal.

  • Because we deliver our greens shortly after harvest, they stay fresh for longer and as a result, they still have all their flavour, you can not experience any fresher more flavourful greens than our microgreens.

4- Versatile and Convenient

  • You don't cook microgreens, you simply cut them and eat them as-is or sprinkle them on your favourite food.

  • At home when we have guests we leave a few bowls of different greens on the table to snack on as-is and we always have to get more.

  • Because they are packed with nutrients and flavour you can dress any meal with, from BBQ meat dishes to salads, smoothies and soups.

  • In the mornings, if you don't have time to make breakfast, sprinkle them on your buttered toast (yes, it is actually nice).

  • This versatility makes it easy to blend them with your kid's favourite meals as well.

  • Getting you and your kids' 5-a-day has never been easier.

5- 100% Natural

nh veg heart.jpg
  • Due to the fact that microgreens are nutrient-dense, packed with all manner of nutrients, microgreens are perfect to be used as a 100% all-natural food supplement.

  • Many naturally occurring vitamins break down very quickly and you need to try and compensate by ingesting artificial (synthetic) compounds instead which are not absorbed in the same way as natural elements.

  • With microgreens and due to their freshness you are guaranteed to get all nutrients as mother nature intended.

6- Grown Year-Round

  • Because we are able to control the climate indoors we are able to provide all our greens year-round.

  • There is no need to import foreign goods to get the nutrients you need, you can buy them locally where they are grown.

7- 100% Pesticide and Herbicide free

nh pesticide goods.jpg
  • Several studies have linked the use of pesticides and herbicides to various illnesses and human health effects

  • We are 100% pesticide and herbicide-free, we have eliminated the use of any pesticide and herbicide on any crop that we grow meaning you do not have to worry about ingesting even trace amounts of these chemicals as you would with many other conventional crops.
